Florida's research universities, in particular, have the expertise, innovation and creativity to develop new industries and spur economic growth. In 2009, for example, they performed nearly $1.7 billion in sponsored research and received nearly $60 million in revenues from 562 licenses.


Florida's universities are regarded as some of the best in the country in technology transfer. Much of it has resulted in the formation and/or growth of numerous companies of various sizes--from startups to large companies--across the state. In the last decade, more than 200 new companies were created in the state based on research conducted at Florida universities.
