The U.S. State of Florida and the Republic of South Africa have had a longstanding and mutually beneficial economic partnership. Florida was among the first U.S. states to open a representative office in South Africa in the 1990s, with numerous commercial, transportation, and cultural linkages. The prospects for further development of bilateral economic relations are excellent.

  • In 2022, total bilateral merchandise trade between Florida and South Africa was $313 million, making it Florida’s #1 bilateral merchandise trade partner on the African continent and 62nd largest partner overall.
  • Florida exports to South Africa were $100.8 million in 2022. Leading export commodities include aircraft, chemical woodpulp, plastics, car parts, and orthopedic appliances.
  • Florida imports from South Africa were $212.7 million in 2022. Leading import commodities include yachts, iron, steel, ice cream, essential oils, and jewelry.
