In 2019, South Africa was Florida’s 62nd largest bilateral merchandise trading partner, with total merchandise trade between them hitting $232.1 million. Florida exports to South Africa were $101.3 million in 2019, and imports from South Africa were $130.8 million. Leading commodities traded between South Africa and Florida include aircraft, motor vehicles, yachts, vaccines, plastics, jewelry, iron, steel and essential oils.

Florida and Southern Africa have a strong working relationship as both communities and economies continue to develop. Further supporting their shared business and cultural ties is a Sister City agreement between Jacksonville, FL and the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality in South Africa.
