Spain and Florida shared a total merchandise trade of $1.2 billion in 2019, making Spain Florida’s 32nd largest bilateral merchandise trading partner. Ranking as Florida’s 21st largest source for merchandise imports, imports from Spain were $912.1 million in 2019, and exports to Spain from Florida were $304.7 million. In the past five years, bilateral trade has grown by 14.8%, and by 52.3% in the past 10 years.

Spain is the fourteenth-largest foreign investor in Florida as ranked by employment, responsible for 4,300 jobs throughout the state. According to Dun & Bradstreet, there are 91 Spanish companies with 232 branch locations in Florida. These businesses span industries such as retail — including global apparel retailer Zara — infrastructure, construction, financial services and communications.

It’s estimated that over 16% of Florida’s population is Spanish-speaking, and Miami County has emerged as the epicenter of Spanish culture in Florida, with nearly 75% of Spanish establishments in the state locating their offices in Miami County. Also, Miami is one of the few cities in the world that has six official Spanish institutions. Florida has Sister-City partnerships with Barcarrota, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Granada, Mataro, Madrid, Murcia, Almonte, Valladolid, Oviedo, Macharaviaya, Ciudadella de Menorca and Figueres.
