Governor Scott outlines his legislative priorities for Enterprise Florida
ORLANDO, Fla. (October 22, 2015) – Today, Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI) held its quarterly Board of Directors meeting in Orlando. During the meeting Governor Rick Scott, who serves as Chairman of the Board, outlined his legislative priorities for Enterprise Florida for the upcoming session. Additionally, the Governor presented three business ambassador awards, and the Board received updates on EFI’s new marketing efforts to promote Florida as the best state for business.

Bill Johnson, President & CEO of Enterprise Florida said, “I’d like to thank the Governor, our Board, local partners and staff for making our board meeting this week a success. At the meeting, the Governor outlined recommendations that will enhance and improve our economic development process. I look forward to working with the Governor, legislature and other partners to make Florida the leader in economic development.”
The board meeting featured regional updates from local leaders as well. Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs shared recent economic development successes. “As our economy continues to expand, including our status as the top tourism destination in the country and leading site for the world’s modeling, simulation and training industry, Orange County is committed to creating the best business climate possible,” said Mayor Jacobs. “From a trained workforce to billions of dollars in new infrastructure and our exciting branding campaign, we are poised for continued economic strength.”
Rick Weddle, President & CEO of the Orlando EDC discussed his organization’s successful “Orlando – You Don’t Know the Half of It” campaign. Weddle said, “The most important metric of all is when businesses make a positive decision to locate in our region.”
During the meeting, the Governor also presented job creator awards to the following companies:
In January 2015, VOXX International announced it would build a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing center and corporate headquarters in Orlando, creating 134 jobs, in addition to retaining 173 jobs, and a $16.5 million capital investment. The facility is set to open early next year.
VOXX International President & CEO Patrick Lavelle said, “The regulatory climate and business-friendly attitude here really made us stop and look at Florida. There was some very difficult competition but at the end of the day, having UCF here, brand new highways, a beautiful airport, and ports on either side make this the place for VOXX Electronics.”
St. John & Partners was named as the agency of record for the upcoming Team Florida marketing campaign. The Jacksonville-based agency is one of the largest independent agencies headquartered in Florida. As a full-service agency, St. John & Partners’ clients include Ad Council, Daytona International Speedway, Florida Department of Citrus, Marriott and Zaxby’s.
EFI’s Board of Directors is comprised of appointed members and a diverse group of investors representing some of the nation’s most notable corporations. In addition, each member of the Florida Cabinet holds a position on the Board.
The next EFI Board meeting will be held January 29 in Tallahassee. The meetings are open to the public, with provision for public comment, and are shown live by the Florida Channel.
