Florida serves as a major international trade center and hub for businesses across all industries. No other site in the Western Hemisphere can match Florida’s unique combination of strategic geographic location as a gateway to the Americas, state-of-the-art ports and transportation infrastructure, multilingual workforce, and concentration of corporate and financial resources. Many international firms base their warehousing, distribution and manufacturing operations in Florida to take advantage of the easy access to global markets.
International trade is one of Florida’s strongest sectors, accounting for $60.5 billion in Florida-origin exports. More than 60,000 Florida companies export, which accounts for 20 percent of all U.S. exporters. Businesses that operate in Florida can take advantage of unrivaled access to export counseling and international trade through the services that EFI provides.
EFI has seven trade offices located throughout the state to provide export counseling and advice to Florida manufacturers, export intermediaries, and services companies. The trade offices provide many services including evaluation of a company’s market readiness, selecting target markets for its products or services, market research, information on channels of distribution in target markets, educational “how to” seminars, export promotion through trade missions, shows and matchmaking programs and introductions to our International Offices.
EFI has 15 international offices which counsel small businesses looking to export to foreign markets. The offices also identify Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) opportunities for international companies looking to invest or do business in Florida.
In 2013, EFI hosted 40 domestic and overseas events with 912 small and mid-sized businesses generating more than $775 million in total projected export sales. Eligible small and medium-sized companies can apply for target sector trade grants to help offset costs and enable them to participate in EFI trade shows and select U.S. certified trade exhibitions in new markets that they would otherwise not have the means to attend.
In January, EFI hosted 24 life science companies as part of a Florida pavilion at Arab Health in Dubai, UAE. The show is considered to be the second-largest medical trade show in the world and offers exhibitors unmatched networking and sales opportunities with companies in the Middle East and surrounding areas. Florida companies reported $111 million in total projected sales from this year’s show.
EFI was able to provide 11 Florida companies with trade grants that reduced the cost of attending Arab Health. One recipient of the grant was Alicia Diagnostics from Chuluota in Central Florida. The company manufactures infusion pumps, syringe pumps and ECGs. Parisa Soltani, Director of Sales and Marketing said “Arab Health is always our largest and most profitable event but the show is a great expense, especially for a small company. Grants are imperative to our ability to participate each year. We are very grateful to Enterprise Florida for all that they do.”
