Registration now open for Florida companies to participate in international business development trip
ORLANDO, FL – Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI), the state’s principal economic development organization, will lead a trade mission to Lima, Peru from March 23-25, 2015. Florida companies are invited to join EFI and other business leaders for an export and trade event with Florida’s eighth-largest trade partner. The mission will provide Florida companies with the opportunity to expand through trade with Peruvian businesses.
Secretary of Commerce and president & CEO of EFI, Gray Swoope said, “EFI-led international trips are a great way for Florida companies to network with like-minded global companies. International business accounts for 17 percent of Florida’s economy and Florida has the second highest number of exporters in the U.S. This mission to Peru is another way for companies to take advantage of Florida’s unique global position and unmatched trade access with South and Latin America.”
EFI’s Export Development Mission to Peru is part of its strategy to market Florida exports and companies in Latin America. More than $2.8 billion in Florida products were exported to Peru last year, and Peruvian imports totaled $2.6 billion. In 2013, Peru achieved its 15th consecutive year of economic growth at 5 percent and Peru continues to be one of the best performing economies in Latin America. The U.S. has a free trade agreement with Peru, making market entry and doing business in Peru much easier than it would be in other markets.
EFI Senior Vice President of International Trade and Development, Manny Mencia said, “Peru has a dynamic and expanding economy, and is projected to be one of fastest growing in Latin America for years to come. This presents unique opportunities for Florida exporters. If you look at the products that are in demand in Peru, they are all sectors in which Florida specializes. The market is well-positioned for Florida companies to expand, and there’s also interest from Peru in expanding relations with Florida.”
Peru target industries include, but are not limited to:
EFI will offer a limited number of Gold Key Matchmaking one-on-one appointments through the U.S. Commercial Service for participating Florida companies. The pre-screened meetings allow participants to talk with qualified companies interested in forming trade relationships with Florida businesses. The price of this service is $1,050. Small and mid-sized Florida manufacturers, high-tech companies and professional service providers may qualify for a Gold Key Grant, which will offset 100 percent of the registration fee for the first company representative.
EFI maintains an extensive schedule of overseas trade missions and exhibitions worldwide. In fiscal year 2013-14, EFI hosted 17 major international trade shows and missions with 724 participants, generating more than $820 million in total projected export sales.
