Medical information technology and software development company will add 68 jobs and $1.5 million to local economy
VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL – Governor Rick Scott today announced that DuvaSawko will expand its national headquarters in Ormond Beach. DuvaSawko is a leading medical information technology and software development company. The expansion will create 68 new jobs over three years and an initial capital investment of more than $1.5 million.
Governor Scott said, “We are excited to announce that DuvaSawko has chosen to expand its national headquarters in Ormond Beach. This is just one of many national headquarters that are moving or expanding their operations to Florida – because our policies for Florida families and businesses to succeed are working. Florida’s unemployment rate is below the national average, and we’ve created more than 330,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010. The new jobs being created by DuvaSawko are just another example that it’s working in Florida.”
The company currently employs 133 people and has formed Edge Physicians Inc., an affiliate medical software company, which will allow them to grow even further in the region. In addition, the new facility in Ormond Beach will provide additional office space to conduct medical billing and software development.
DuvaSawko selected Ormond Beach because it offered an excellent site for expanding their headquarters as well as an expedited city permitting process and recruitment and training support. DuvaSawko is renovating a vacant 30,000 square-foot building located along South US 1, and will move into the space later this year.
“DuvaSawko as a company of 15 years has hit its full stride with respect to reputation and business velocity to support the planned growth by their leadership team. In addition we have been very fortunate to find a physical plant in Ormond Beach that could be remodeled and updated to house that growth plus its sister companies”, states Dr. Charles Duva. “In addition, the city of Ormond Beach has aggressively stepped up to invest in assisting us to bring many new jobs to the city plus support from Ormond Beach leadership as well as departments related to growth and development. This partnership has success written all over it!”
Florida has remained at the forefront of information technology innovation throughout the last 30 years. Most notably, Florida’s software and computer systems design and integration industry is one of the largest in the U.S., with some 12,600 firms. Nearly half of the 80,000 professionals who work in the field are employed by software development firms, with the rest working in related technology-intensive industries throughout the state.
“Enterprise Florida remains committed to enhancing Florida’s info tech sector by actively helping companies like DuvaSawko expand in the state,” said Secretary of Commerce and President & CEO of Enterprise Florida Gray Swoope. “DuvaSawko’s continued growth and investment in the region is a testament to Florida’s competitiveness and supportive business climate. We are thrilled that they have chosen to grow in Volusia County.”
“We are excited that DuvaSawko and their new affiliate business Edge Physicians Inc. have selected Ormond Beach to expand their headquarters,” said Mayor Ed Kelley. “They are a significant corporate and community partner. It is also important to note that the city and the county worked together seamlessly with Enterprise Florida and the state to help make it happen!”
The region’s unemployment rate continues to decline, demonstrating that job creation and economic development efforts are working. According to data from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach metro statistical area experienced an over-the-year decrease in the unemployment rate of 1.8 percentage points, from 8.6 percent in April 2012 to the current rate of 6.8 percent.
‘Duva Sawko investing in our state and creating 68 new jobs is great news for Florida families,” said DEO Executive Director Jesse Panuccio. “Florida’s unemployment rate is steadily decreasing, while the job growth rate continues to increase. This means that Floridians are getting back to work due to the sound policies and bold, business-friendly ideas of this administration.”
Partner organizations for the project included City of Ormond Beach Department of Economic Development, Volusia County Department Economic Development and Enterprise Florida.
