Telecommunications giant expands Florida presence with Lake Mary Finance Center, creating a total of 1,100 jobs and $50 million in capital investment
In April 2014, Verizon Communications celebrated the grand opening of its Lake Mary Finance Center and announced that the company will create 350 jobs in addition to the 750 already established. With an estimated $50 million capital investment, the company has already made a major impact on the Central Florida community.
When Verizon made the decision two years ago to consolidate its financial operations into two hubs, the options for locations were numerous. After exhaustive research and evaluation, Lake Mary in Seminole County emerged as an ideal site for one of those two hubs.
With access to one of the largest financial and professional service talent pipelines in the U.S. , Florida offered Verizon a large workforce pool to staff its accounting, finance, payroll and back-office operations.
Verizon joins the ranks of the nation’s many leading financial and professional services companies that have established operations in Florida to take advantage of the state’s experienced workforce, global connectivity, and favorable business climate.
Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI), the state’s principal economic development organization, assisted Verizon with identifying potential locations across the state. The company also received valuable support from state and local partners at the Orlando Economic Development Corporation, Seminole County, CareerSource Florida and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
Competitive economic development projects like the Verizon expansion are vital to creating jobs and diversifying Florida’s economy. With support from state and local leaders, regional economic development offices, utility partners and community organizations, EFI will continue its efforts to expand the state’s economy through job creation, and promote Florida as a premier business super-state.
“The welcome we have received from Seminole County, Lake Mary and the local and state economic development groups has been top notch. This expansion further represents our commitment to creating and offering good jobs in an industry-leading company with a first-class envrionment.” – Fran Shammo, Chief Financial Officer, Verizon
